001: Overview

DEPARTMNT is launching our genesis collection of 2000 ‘Access Tokens’ for 001. Each 001 ‘Access Token’ is a digital design and physical product representing the first set of objects of desire: a unique eyewear collection.

These ‘Access Tokens’ are initially delivered in digital form: a virtual representation of the unique eyewear design asset on the Ethereum blockchain that will also act as an Access Token enabling the first opportunity for collectors to enter the DEPARTMNT Experience.

Every 001 ‘Access Token’ has a redeemable physical counterpart too: this is precisely the same eyewear design as the digital animation depicts and is produced to the highest quality by DEPARTMNT before being shipped to a location of your choice.

These physical eyewear pieces also have embedded technology known as the DEPARTMNT access chip or (DAC), which will act as real-world 'Access Tokens’ that can be used and enabled to unlock more of the DEPARTMNT Experience.

The individuality of each eyewear piece is achieved using DEPARTMNT’s modular design system.

This means some tokens are rarer than others, and therefore are subject to a rarity rank. Each Access Token also has several points attributed to it (more on this later), the quantity of which is directly proportional to rarity rank.

We aim to break the consumer cycle by offering a new type of product cycle that is based more on a journey fuelled by real-life experiences.

DEPARTMNT collaborated with creative E.Gucewicz Creative Studio to create the Access Tokens for our genesis drop.

‘We chose eyewear because: we wanted our genesis collection launch to include both the digital and physical assets. As well as this product being incredibly fun to produce - it has also been created to serve an immediately obvious utility of looking cool and turning some heads IRL. Whilst crucially, be capable of fulfilling a role as an Access Token - when in either physical and digital form - that can feasibly be used to unlock further value through experience - as part of the DEPARTMNT Experience.’ – DEPARTMNT
